WineMap Quick Tour

The WineMap is an engaging, powerful tool that give you complete access to all things wine. Take a tour to get comfortable with the controls

  1. Start the WineMap by clicking "Map" in the header.
  2. If you have a wheel mouse, zoom in on the map by moving the mouse over the map and scrolling the wheel forward a few times.
  3. Pan (re-center) the map a few times by clicking and dragging on the map. The pan function is the default tool, active when the application starts.
  4. If the Navigation image is available, click on a corner of the image (may have an arrow) to pan (re-center) the map in the direction of the arrow. Hold down briefly on a corner of the image to pan more distance. Then pan back in the opposite direction. Notice the map is already present in areas you return to. This illustrates the caching functionality of the application.
  5. In the Toolbar, click the Zoom In tool , or hold (Shift), then click and drag on the map to draw a rectangle, and release the mouse button. The map zooms into the area of the rectangle.
  6. In the Toolbar, click the Identify tool , or hold (Ctrl) Then click in the map on a feature you are interested in. The Results section of the Console displays the location coordinates where you clicked. If any features are found where you clicked, you will see the results in the "Search Results" section of the console (if not, you will be informed that there were no results).
  7. If features are found, they will be displayed and organized according to their attributes (Vineyards, Wineries & Tasting Rooms, etc.). Hover over a result's name to see where it is on the map. Clicking a result will popup a corresponding tool tip, and allow you to learn more about that location. You can right-click on a result and choose to "Zoom To" the feature to show that area in more detail. When finished, you can remove a results item by right-clicking with the mouse and choosing Remove.
  8. Find features by using the Identify tool, Search tool, or by discovering it on the map.
  9. Display the Map Contents by clicking its down-arrow in the Console. Map Contents shows the layers in the map.
  10. Checking and un-checking map layers will toggle various datasets on and off.
  11. Explore other content and tools in the map. Happy Mapping!
